bostonspurs Gladiator wanna-be with one awesome scene
This movie is similar to Troy in that it tries to tell the story of a legend through historical fiction. Arthur is recast as a Roman/British knight in the late fourth century fighting against the Saxons. The result is a so-so Gladiator-wanna be movie, with middling acting, crappy dialogue, wimpy action scenes, and forgettable villains. However, there is one scene that’s really cool (The battle on the ice), so look that one up on youtube.

Particularly annoying is the fact that the British monk Pelagius is constantly referred to by Arthur as some great visionary (like a 4th century Thomas Jefferson) who believes in the free will and equality of all men. Anyone who has read about the debate between Augustine and Pelagius will be quite irritated at the way that Pelagius’s ideas are Americanized and Pelagius is cast as a martyr.
